The objective of the training programme is to address issues concerned with the challenges women face across Nigeria in agribusiness, and thus, we would ensure that trainees learn practical and business management skills on how to start and nurture their agribusinesses investment in the area of food processing technology. By the implementation of this project it would increase the influx of more women into Agribusiness across Nigeria with better understanding of how things work in this sector, aid in equipping them with the needed rudiments to sustain their agri - investments and link them to potential markets within and outside Nigeria.
STRATEGIES/PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
- Select two (2) states from each of the geo-political zone and FCT in Nigeria as pilot state as shown below:
- Select 15 existing agricultural cooperative societies or Commodity Associations from each state in the geopolitical zones;
- Cooperatives/Associations submit 20 members each for improving knowledge gap through tailored agripreneurship training;
- Undertake sensitization and Need Assessment to 100 participants per State (2 training centres/State)
- Provide the cooperative/Commodity Association with equipment support and handling techniques/training support
- Monitor the progress of the programme for quality assurance;
- Institute 2 post training visits support (State and Headquarter) 6 months after the training
- Evaluate outcomes and use results to improve the programme over time
- Establish a drying/dehydration center for each cooperatives participating in the programme (2 fish/meat drier and 2 dehydrators for each group of 20 participants).
The following are therefore the specific objectives of the programme:
- expose trainees to the various entrepreneurial opportunities in adopting drying and dehydration technology for food processing business that are viable and self-sustaining;
- empowering the women in simple business planning methods which they would use to start up or sustain their ongoing sales of highly perishable farm produce business;
- link trainees to mentors that can provide further learning and support services after the training, and
- prepare the women for export readiness by training on best global practices for production, branding and packaging.
The programme is being implemented at the State level in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, SMEDAN, ITF, NABTEB and agricultural-based cooperative societies/Commodity Associations.
