The Government, NGO’s and other donor agencies often commission reviews to guide the design of capacity development programmes we propose. This includes using reviews to establish a `baseline’ assessment of existing capacity, enabling future measurement of progress over time. This review has helped our donor agencies to identify where their support can be most effective, and what kind of support they would provide or may be required. Further reviews may be used during the life of the programme to track broad changes in the organisation.
Plateau State Government and other relevant stake holders recognize the role the role of women in agricultural production in Nigeria which is prominent. They understand how play various parts in agricultural activities ranging from production, processing, and marketing since pre-colonial times.
In Plateau State Government acknowledge of the Mwaghavul women who have taken the leading role in agricultural production especially since the colonial period due to factors associated with colonial administration. Today, Mwaghavul women are dominant both in activities and number, but despite the leading role they play production is hampered by a number of factors.
The Government knows that these women with about 70 percent accounting for the farming population, representing about 60-70 percent of most farming activity remain an integral part of agricultural development and food security in Mangu and Nigeria at large.
But this position is under threat by the issue of gender in agricultural production as reflected in the area of ownership, and management of agricultural productive resources like land, inputs, and access to loan among others. This serves as a major factor for support from the State Government by keying into the proposed project, and providing the needed legal support framework, management support and guidelines in dealing with the target group.
Gender inequality has affected agricultural production in Mangu, resulting to food insecurity. Therefore, should government speak to gender stratification in agriculture, which has cause a decline in women productivity, the issue would be halted, bringing about increased food production, hunger reduction, and food security.
Our partnership with the Plateau State Government, SMEDAN, PLASMIDA, Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant stake holders in the project have been selected since they recognize the role of women in agriculture across the state and he Nation at large.
